Featured Art
This new series of still life photography, inspired by my Worn Spoon Project, continues my exploration of beauty found in imperfection, age, and the stories objects tell through time. Each piece begins with an old, tarnished, and well-loved silver platter—an object that has served its purpose for generations, bearing the marks of countless hands and moments in its textured surface. These platters, once pristine, now hold a history that is etched into their tarnish and wear, embodying the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi—the appreciation of impermanence and imperfection.
In this series, I pair these weathered platters with elements from nature: delicate seashells, vibrant flowers, dried leaves, and other ephemeral treasures. Each composition becomes a visual feast on contrast and harmony—the polished yet tarnished metal juxtaposed with the fleeting vibrancy of organic materials. These still life pieces invite viewers to pause and reflect on the interplay between human craftsmanship and the natural world, between the enduring and the ephemeral.
Through this work, I aim to celebrate the resilience and elegance of objects that carry the passage of time within them. The platters, though no longer pristine, remain beautiful and dignified, just as the shells, flowers, and leaves remind us of the transient beauty of life. Together, they create a visual dialogue that honors the cycles of use, wear, and renewal—a mirror to our own lives and experiences.
This project is deeply personal to me as it stems from my desire to uncover and elevate the overlooked. By creating art from these aged and imperfect objects, I hope to inspire viewers to see the value in what is worn, flawed, and fleeting. Each piece tells a story not just of its own existence but of the shared human experience of aging, evolving, and finding beauty in the unexpected.
Ultimately, this series seeks to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, encouraging us to embrace the impermanence of life with grace and gratitude. It is an invitation to find connection and meaning in the stories etched into the surfaces of these objects, and perhaps, in the reflections they offer of ourselves.

“I love the beauty of imperfection. In our overly-polished world, I find the unique textures and irregularities to be the most beautiful aspect of an object.” – Donna Dufault
